Rote Spitze & Schrecksee

2130m

Ammergau Alps, Austria

Long but very rewarding hike visiting four lakes and underrated Rote Spitze

This is fairly long, but not that difficult hike through one of the most beautifulj areas in Tyrol and visit the most beautiful lake in Germany by many. Most of the length is on the flat ground where the cars are not allowed (unless you come really early) and there is only one steeper part at the beginning.

Technically, there is no demanding terrain. In a few places you are going over some cliffs, but they are well secured with cables, so that everybody can pass it without any problems.

Besides four lakes, on your way you can also admire Hochvogel (known as Allgäu’s Matterhorn) and incredible mountain formations all around it. Make sure you stay motivated after Schrecksee and an interesting traverse to the pass where you can already see the long-awaited hut down below. From that point it only takes 15 minutes to get to mighty-looking Rote Spitze, an absolute highlight of the tour (despite all the lakes).
